When I first started my CrossFit journey with Rush, I had no expectations. I really didn’t even know what CrossFit was. All I knew is that I wanted to be in better shape and that I didn’t want just another gym membership. So I joined their “box” on a 1 month trial.

What I quickly noticed was that this wasn’t just another gym membership. I had joined a community of amazing coaches and members who workout in a way that I had never experienced before. A place where you didn’t just train next to someone but rather you would lift, row, run, jump and sweat together, encourage each other and cheer each other on to complete the workouts.

The results I have experienced are staggering to me. Over the span of 3 years, I’ve lost 10 lbs, trimmed down several inches off my waist and significantly increased muscle. Not only have I transformed into a leaner; healthier version of myself, I’ve also developed a much tougher, more focused mind set. I can honestly say that at the age of 40, I am in the best shape of my life. While the physical transformation has been awesome, the most important thing I have experienced in myself is the way I feel. I feel confident, strong, resilient and proud of what I have accomplished and with the continued guidance from Rush coaches, I believe there is still more I can achieve as I continue to develop my skills in the gym.

The owners (Jeff and Cynthia) have created and fostered an incredible community of supportive, caring people who are truly there to help you improve your health. Offering top level coaching, support with nutrition, and tailored movements to accommodate any skill level or injuries you may be dealing with, to keep you moving towards your individual fitness goals.

J’ai participé à ma première classe à Crossfit Rush le 28 juillet 2018 à l’âge de 55 ans et pas athlète pour cinq sous. Même avant d’y mettre les pieds, j’avais décidé que ce ne serait pas pour moi et qu’encore une fois je ne m’engagerais pas à faire de l’exercice. Eh bien, à mon grand étonnement, j’y suis encore et je participe à au moins trois classes par semaine!

En épuisement professionnel à ce moment-là, ayant aussi des douleurs articulaires constantes et une mobilité restreinte avec mes bras, mon équipe de professionnels de la santé m’incitait à faire de l’exercice. J’étais déjà épuisé, j’avais mal partout où allais-je trouver l’énergie pour bouger? Je ne voulais surtout pas avoir plus de douleurs que j’en avais déjà! Je n’y voyais ni intérêts, ni bénéfices. J’avais par le passé tenté à plusieurs reprises de trouver un sport, des exercices, un gym mais rien ne me plaisait et je ne me sentais pas à ma place donc j’abandonnais. Je pensais que j’avais épuisé toutes mes ressources

Convaincue par mon fils que chez Crossfit j’y trouverais ma place et une variété d’exercice qui me plairait, j’ai donc essayé une leçon gratuite. Il avait tout à fait raison. Faire partie de la famille Crossfit Rush a complètement changer ma vie. Nous partageons tous un même objectif : être heureux et en santé aujourd’hui plus que nous l’étions hier. Comme vous voyez cette mission n’a ni âge, ni condition, ni jugement. Elle s’applique à chacun, chacune de nous. C’est pour cela que j’ai trouvé ma place. Dans une ambiance de respect et de confiance nous travaillons à nous améliorer tout en s’amusant et en s’encourageant les uns les autres car chaque dépassement, chaque but atteint est une victoire que nous célébrons tous ensemble.

Les entraineurs professionnels nous guident afin que l’on découvre nos capacités mais nous encouragent aussi à les dépasser. Les programmes sont établis et nous n’avons rien à préparer. Nous sommes très bien encadrés. Chaque membre est important et l’équipe de gestion est très à l’écoute de nos demandes et besoins. C’est bien beau tout ça me direz-vous, mais qu’est-ce que ça changer dans ta vie? TOUT!! Je suis en meilleur santé, j’ai une meilleure flexibilité, mobilité, coordination et mon cardio c’est beaucoup améliorer. J’ai un meilleur estime de moi, une confiance en mes capacités, une détermination que je peux réussir, pas juste au gym mais dans tout ce que j’entreprends. Je développe la persévérance, la patience, l’écoute de mon corps. C’est pouvoir maintenant lever mes bras pour mettre un chandail, prendre mes petits-enfants, soulever des objets. C’est sortir du lit plus facilement, embarquer/débarquer d’un véhicule plus aisément. C’est pouvoir mélanger un gâteau, couper des légumes, préparer un bon repas sans que mes bras et mes mains s’engourdissent. Ce sont des douleurs articulaires qui me quittent, des muscles plus forts, un meilleur tonus qui me permet d’avoir une meilleure posture. C’est une liberté de mouvement quotidien que nous prenons pour acquis que je retrouve doucement. C’est une fatigue chronique qui est remplacé par une nouvelle énergie. Que dire de la diminution de mon stress, mon angoisse. Je ne pense à rien d’autres pendant ma classe de Crossfit, je me concentre sur ce qu’on me demande de faire, m’amuse et je suis dans le moment présent. Dès mes débuts, même à une classe par semaine, je ressentais une diminution du stress que la vie m’apporte. J’acquiert de nouvelles connaissances sur une multitude de sujet qui m’aide à améliorer ma vie. Aujourd’hui je peux dire que mes classes de Crossfit sont inscris dans mon horaire car j’en ai besoin comme l’air que je respire. Vous savez, moi ça me fait tellement de bien que j’y retourne avec plaisir!

I started with Crossfit Rush just over one year ago when a fellow “Rush Mom” suggested I meet her at a “Fit30” half hour lunch-time class; she knew I worked virtual from home and invited me to join the other lunch time warriors. From there it all began and I have never looked back (thank-you, Jodie!).

I remember being extremely nervous for that first class, then afterwards feeling so inspired. From my first step in the door the Coach made me feel welcome (thank-you, Jeff!) and much to my surprise at that time I could complete every movement, some with modifications, and I left thinking “Wow, I can really do this, I feel great”.

Fitness has always been a part of my life in some way, shape or form and at the time I started with Rush I needed an outlet to direct my energy, or more importantly to build positive energy. Before joining I had just suffered the tragic loss of my brother which has been the most devastating thing in my life. I knew I needed to channel my grief and emotion into something that would benefit me. I have young kids and I wanted to be a better and more energetic Mom and wife, a stronger version of myself. Voila – the Rush Family took me under their wing in more ways than they know. I have never told Coach Jeff or anyone else how much they have helped me. So many times, I wanted to send a note saying “you lifted me up today, you make a difference in my life”.

Over the first few months I realized what set Rush apart from other group fitness classes I had done before. I was engaged and having fun the whole time. I also saw results quickly. I recall flexing my arms in the mirror, for the first time I had muscle definition! Nowadays I can enthusiastically say that I have gained 10lbs of muscle. I love weight lifting, box jumps, burpees, tire flipping, rowing and although I do not love “wall-balls” or skipping, I do it because I want to challenge myself and I have a team of friends alongside setting the example and giving their all. My 6-year-old daughter comes to classes to watch; she brings her colouring books and her snacks, but most often she is transfixed watching the athletes and dancing to Coach Joey’s soundtrack (she often asks for “Joey music” in the car!). One class she was feeling a bit shy and had started crying and before I knew it one of the kids Coaches had her off to the side hugging her, then striking up a game and their laughter filled the gym. My daughter is now a part of the Crossfit Kids program and the sport and her experience with Rush has impacted her so positively. Everyone is a supporter at Rush in so many ways, from cheering you on to finish those last reps, to ensuring the kids are taken care of so the parent can finish the workout.

I participated in Rush’s Friday Night Lights during the Crossfit Games and they used the proceeds to purchase a defibrillator for the gym; that blew me away. Most recently I went completely outside of my comfort zone and competed on a team with fellow strong Rush women in the Girls Gone RX breast cancer fundraiser at an area box, that event raised $10,000. Crossfit is a community, they care, and they enrich lives. Not only has Crossfit Rush in Rockland given me the physical results of working hard, but the mental benefits I have received are just as important. Coach Cyn said to me one day “you have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable” (back squat training!), she doesn’t know this but I have applied that advice to every area of my life since she said that.

For those who are interested in checking out Crossfit Rush, please do not think you need to ‘get in shape’ before going. Rush is a safe environment and no matter what skill level or body shape you go in with, you are going to see results, have a barrel of laughs, pull out the inner badass in yourself and join an extension of family in the process.
